Its had a rough life! You can see in the second photo the handle is cracked in 1/2. Think they'll warranty it for me??

Give it a try. The written warranty is in the catalog, you might want to print it and take it with you. If the local guy says "no" than you could send it to Snap on and try that path to

These days they prefer not to warranty tools bought second-hand. They will most likely ask if you are the original purchaser; you can lie if you like, but I prefer not to, personally.

Yes I like this era screwdriver too. I have an entire set(might be a little newer but not the modern handles). I have a feeling it wouldn't be a believable lie anyways as I suspect the screwdriver is older than I am!

There were issues with the chemical composition of these vintage handles, and Snap-On was VERY aware of it at the time. The chemistry changed over time, and shrinking and corrosive gassing out occurred.

If you can find a Dealer who has been around a while and you walk on his truck, hold it up and say, STINKER SHRINKER, he will give you a new screwdriver! If you look at it you can see the shrinkage. The gasses emitted are corrosive and can damage toolbox finishes and other tools close to it. I also was told by a dealer that there could be health issues handling these.

I have had many of them replaced over the years, but I was the original purchaser for the bulk of them
Find an OLD guy that knows about this, and you wont have a problem.
