I want a K60

Post by 00fxd »

After recently acquiring and researching my KR300B Rolla-Bench, I now have been coveting a K60, so I am educating myself as much as possible about them.
I remember as a young salesman or possibly a delivery driver in the auto parts industry I once found myself in a dark corner of a City of Calgary repair shop. In this corner was an old mechanic that was obviously getting to the end of his career. In my fading memory I recall noticing his old, well used tool box and that it was a very cool oldie, I now know to be a K60. As I have always been into antique autos and memorabilia I knew it was something a bit special even back then. This would have been 40 years ago.
I have been studying this excellent site, thanks Frank, it must have been a LOT of work.
So now for clarification, these were made between 1939 and 1950? Were they always red? Do I have any chance at all of finding one?
The hunt is on........ :D

Probably 1938. Some were grey. The ones most collectors want are the early ones. They do come up on ebay sometimes.

Nice one FJ. Thanks. Big bucks tho :-). I wonder what year that one is. The horizontal trim on the front cover is not on all of them it seems.

That grey one is later, after @ 1940, but could run a good bit later than that.
The reinforced corners on the lid is one evolved feature.
And any of the 60's that have friction slides is post 1940, the earlier ones sat on bottom rollers on individual trays, like the K-5.

They are rare and precious, no matter when they were made.
