I am trying to find out about what it would take to repair an FV 71 ratchet. From the old catalogs it shows to take an RKR380 repair kit to fix the non-military ratchets but I am not having any luck finding this kit. They both have 20 tooth gears.

I think the kit you need is a RKRA380 If you go to the snap on site just type that in under search, its 10.00. or sometime if you just call them, they will send it for free. anyways I would call just to verify.
if they do not have a kit to fix it, you can send the rat in and they will exchange it for a new rat. but if all this fails, I may have the parts to fix it. I have a few rats I have had most of my life, and I can just not part with them, I just fix em.

I had contacted snap-on through e-mail and they told me that that kit would not work and the word from my dealer was that the kit to fix it was discontinued. I don't understand the difference between the military ratchet and the non-military ratchet- they both look alike. Thank-you for your input and I may invest a personal touch phone call- might bring better results.

Try a kit from a F711 ratchet. RKRA38ALS. See if your dealer has one to look at. Most dealers are not helpful when they know the kit is for a military ratchet.
The difference is usually the width and height of the drive gear.
