compare the "V" series wrenches to later "VS"series angle wrenches.As close i can tell from looking at Franks catalogs the "V" series was sold from 1950 till 1960.At which point they switched over to the "VS" series. I puchased my set in 1974 and have used almost daily since.Snap on switched over to the current style sometime in early 80's.
the VS wrenches were much more refined in my opinion. About 10 years ago i found a set of "V" wrenches.I bought them only to collect.they have a problem with the chrome peeling. My "VS" set hasn't had any finish problem

I think you are correct that the V series is not as refined as the VS series. It seems to be generally true that Snap on tools evolve over long periods of time. The evolution seems to be along several lines:
- The tools can move to a smaller, narrower and more polished tool
- Some strengthening occurs on some tools - so you can see specific places where - I think - there was a problem and they fixed it
- Early Bluepoint switches to Snap on (particularly in the late 40s and early 50s when Forged Steel merged with Snap on and moved

Some say the pre 1970s tools are better than the tools today. I think there are cases where this is true. I think it is a cost issue.
