Research Question: Name that socket set...
Can anyone tell me what these 3/8 drive sockets are?
When they were made?
What they might be worth?

Might have been used as truck lug nut sockets/stamped steel? Aircraft wheels?

You might be right.
Looks like they are made to reach past something and turn a nut further in.
3/8" drive and short hex engagement part, makes me think it is not made for a lug nut though.
Best regards,
zorloc

For the jam nuts on the wheel bearings used on floating axles for trucks. No idea on brand or value but probably not worth very much.

Some type of jam nut sockets are the best guess yet, in my opinion.
The sockets do say Snap-on.
The number 4 stamped on the sockets looks to me to be closest to the number 4 use in 1934.
Thanks for your comments.

Re: Research Question: Name that socket set...
If they were 3/4 drive I would say hub lock nut sockets. 3/8 drive would mean it is a lower torque fastener. What sizes are they, are any skipped? Just the fact that sides are hollowed out tells me something else needs to get in there like another wrench for adjustment or fingers to remove keepers? And the hex itself does not appear to be very deep in the socket? Great find tho, I would be interested in buying them just for the cool factor, let me know if you are interested in selling them?

Re: Research Question: Name that socket set...
I plan to sell these sockets when I know what they are.
I have $100 dollars in them, and, I will keep them for that, just because they are cool, and, I can ask my gear-head friends what they are and they don't know...
Sizes are:
2 1/8" doesn't have Snap-on stamped on it. Has GEN-K-****-A-*** scratched on it. * are scratched in numbers.
If someone can tell me what the numbers are on this socket, I will believe they know what the rest of the sockets are.
The rest are stamped Snap-on, and, have the stamped in numbers as listed below.
2" 174423-00
1 13/16" 174422-00
1 3/4" 174421-00
1 11/16" 174420-00
1 5/8" 174418-00
1 9/16" 174416-00
1 1/4" 174413-00 and one N 7312 40
1 3/16" 174412-00

So the biggest one is not stamped but is mostly identical to how the rest are made correct? What about the case, does it have a part number?

The largest, a 2 1/8 inch socket, is made the same, but, is not stamped Snap-on, and, is bare metal, not chromed.
The case has the number 174406-00 on it.

Let me know how much you want for them or if you are looking for other tools to trade for it? I love all the odd things not made anymore.
