K22

I recently acquired this little box and quite by accident. One of the tool dealers at the swap got it and had offered it to another buyer but asked me if I was interested if the other guy passed. How could he have even asked such a question? The other buyer passed for some reason. It's a little rough in spots but no major damage - the worst is the lid is a little bowed but that will be easy enough to put right.

K-22 made from about 1935 to about 1946 and it's pretty heavy for a small box at 23 lbs. 20 1/4" wide, 8 1/4 deep, 10 3/4 tall. According to the 1939 catalog price west of the Rockies was $9.35 (and I'm about as west as you can get in the continental US) which is roughly 154 in 2012 dollars. Expensive for a box that size. Especially when you consider there are no slides the drawers ride on simple ledges with no stops and the lid has three small hinges - no piano hinge on the lid although there is one on the drop front.

Plans are limited to a good cleaning, straightening the bowed top and liners for the drawers and top compartment and then put to work holding tools but this one will be kept in the house. I have a psychic vision for some reason of a rather unpleasant dialog in the very near future with a certain Mrs. J.A.F.E. regarding the new home for this.
