Links to Tool box repairs and restorations

Post by funkyfullwidth »

Well, since it seems like Frank has put me on the spot by adding the forums that I suggested, it only seems fair that I post up in at least one of them.

Non of these boxes or writings are my own words, they are simply a collection of posts from other forums which I've found to be interesting. They may not all be completed restorations or repairs, or may not be the way everyone would do it however I find them to be good reading material. I'll add more as I find them...enjoy

Here is my KR56 tool box restoration: http://garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=118803. It is in rough shape, dirty, greasy, dented, beat up and I love it.

Awesome thank you for sharing! I'm glad to see that the paint code you came up with matches one of the codes I posted for red

You are welcome. I am not convinced this is the red I am going to use. It seems the older boxes are more orange, but you will see variations in the degree of orange. If you look at old boxes with stickers removed the paint beneath is less orange than the surrounding paint, leading me to believe the OEM paint is degrading and turning more orange over time with exposure to UV light.

I 'll keep working on the color for my box and post the results.

Definately... My 55' box here is a good example. In person you can definately tell, the top is red, and the bottom looks like an orange. They are both 55 boxes and I bought them together, making me beleive they were purchased together originally in 1955.
