Roll Cab: KRA-398 or 398B?

Post by 64 Pete »

Hi,
I'm new to the forum.
I've been doing a restoration / resurrection on a roll cab that was scrapped(!) at work.
I knew it was tired but I couldn't watch a Snap-On go out in a dumpster!
Most work has been cleaning, straightening, hammering out dents, and filling the holes where they riveted those stupid aluminum boxes on.
I'm painting mine Smoke Gray. (Rustoleum)

I've had little luck finding info on this model.
But I think I've narrowed it down to being a KRA-398 (since that's stamped on the back.)
But what is a 398B? Would they have stamped the "B" behind the model number?
I found this posting:
http://www.collectingsnapon.com/forum/v ... =562#p1235
Mine looks like the 398B.
However, the nameplate is a rectangular plate.
see pics:

Just trying to get an idea of year of manufacture, and anything noteworthy.

Thanks
Pete

Can't read the number in the pic but the number after USA (81?)should be the year of manufacture and there should be a "B" after the 398 if it is indeed a 398B

agmechjake,
Thanks for the answer. To be honest I was hoping for more replies.
My box is a KRA-398, no A or B.
Not sure I understand the difference between the three models.

The diff could be slight, such as a change in the rails, or lock mech.

My understanding is S/O added letters to the model #s when they updated them - A, B, etc. So your KRA-398 is the first version of that particular model, if the theory holds true.

Pretty cool for free. :D
