Cover stop replacement or alternative

Post by Benhill179 »

I Am restoring my father in law's KRA-58B tool chest, who just recently passed away. The cover stops that keep the locking cover from over extending are pretty much destroyed. I am having a difficult time finding replacements from snap on, they told me nothing that they have will work. They still make similar cover stops on current boxes but it seems like all the checking they have done they can't come up with the overall length of the parts and tell me nothing the have will work for my box.

I know the distance that I need is 9" between the rivet holes that attach to the box on the cover stops, can anybody give me ideas or have the part or if something that snap on makes now will come close to that?

Thanks a lot!

Update:

I was able to salvage the old cover stops with some cleaning, welding, and hammering. But, I have another question. Does anybody know what size tubular rivets the cover stops use, and who would be a typical craftsman that would have a tubular rivet press for a quick easy job to rivet them back together?

Thanks again!
