#7 Ratchet

Post by Frank Murch »

Found your website online. Attaching several pics of a ratchet I inherited. Wondering what you can tell me about it as well as possible value.

Thanks.

This is a captive plug ratchet. I have a couple and it is one of my favorite
ratchets.

The "No 7" ratchet was the main line ratchet from the mid 1920s through
1931/2. There was a patent and a lever design that replaced it. Over that
period, there were a number of changes, the eye and casting were beefed up,
the logo and writing changed and the last mod was the captive plug. It did
not last very long - about 18 months if I recall

This ratchet seems to be in good condition. As I mentioned, I like it - The
reason is that it is innovative. It was also obsolete quickly making it a
little more rare than the normal No 7. I would think it is worth between $40
and $60

Great tool -
