Early No 7 Snap-on Ratchet

Post by J.A.F.E. »

I snagged this at a yard sale and thought it had a couple features making hard for me to really put a date range on it.

It looks mostly like a second forging but as far as I know that had On and Off marked on the opposing sides which this does not and the hang hole is a bit different. The first forging did not have a hang hole.

These are the only markings and are identical on each side. I believe the patent was applied for in 27 and since this has no Patent or Pat Pending marks I am guessing it's 26-27.

The hang hole on this one is within the depressed panel like the bottom ratchet in the photo the second forgings had the hang hole within an enlarged border area like the one painted red.

This has the same type of drive plug as the second forging but after all these years no way to tell if it came with the ratchet or was replaced at some time.

In the scheme of things not very important but one of those mysteries that make things interesting. What do you all think?
