Date codes / determining age of rachets, etc

Post by SteveK46825 »

Hello all,

This is my first post, and I am sure this has been asked before, but I couldn't find anything by searching.

My first question is, what Snap-On hand tool items are date coded?

I am starting to build my collection. I found the date code sheet and recently picked up a complete 1/4 drive socket set date coded 1961. I thought that as I build my collection, I would like to stay in the 60's era. This is for no other reason other than it is the era of the cars I like and work on. Plus, it just seemed cool.

I also picked up a 1/4 drive thumb spinner and T bar handle.

There are no date code marks on these items.

So, question two is, for items that are not date coded, how does one determine the approximate age?

( I bought a 1967 Snap-On tool catalog and I'm using that for part number reference)

There is no easy answer. Logo is one way to get a general age. Model number, you can do a search by model number on the Main page of this site, where you will get a list of cats that the model number is listed, so you can get a general idea of age. It seems that a lot of tools from the 60s did not have model numbers
