PAR-X tools

Post by daviddiag »

How does Par-x fit into the picture? I have some Par-x wrenches that I bought from a Snap-On truck in the sixties. I have not seen Par-X on the trucks in many years. My brother had a Par-X 2 drawer tool box with Par-X embossed in front panel. The color and design was similar or same as Snap-On box. The finish on the Par-X wrenches is rough.

Par-X was a low cost line made by Snap-on and sold off the trucks. From late 50's/early 60's to about mid 80's. Most of the line was made using old Snap-on forging dies or in some cases current ones and older screwdriver handle designs but as you noted the finish was not as refined as main line Snap-on. They did not show up in the Snap-on catalogs. Combo wrenches, ratchets (used the same internals as the 730 series ratchets), sockets, screwdrivers and tool chests. The drive tools were 1/4, 3/8, 1/2 and 3/4 drive. Some of the ratchets had the Snap-on date codes but most of the tools did not.
