Ratchet Refinishing

Post by GTM »

Has anyone ever had an old Snap ratchet refinished with new chrome, WWII finish, etc? How many finishes have been available? Who offers refinishing services?

I have not seen this, but many of us have re - plated sockets. Personally, I feel is takes away from the value, but they would be good looking

Can you tell where people get their sockets replated? Do you just go to any place that does plating? How much does it cost? Does it cost more than it is worth?

I've had some parts for my collector vehicles plated and its not cheap. I had the bezels for my 46 dodge 1/2 ton gauge clusters plated. They are 1 ring and 2 rectangles maybe 4 inches across each. $20 each. A lot of it is labor and cost of EPA regulations so a ratchet that might be slightly bigger could still cost about that much.

My dad have classic cars vintage cars and that and hes always buying car badges ect. When he buys an original one in good condition its really good the detail but hes bought the odd 1 now and again that have been re chromed and it takes the detail out of them so im not sure what effect it would have with the part number name and date codes on the tools but appart from that it should work but im not sure if its as good as the original chroming.
