it is stamp with a E for 1944 or a 3 for 1963 hard to tell.
my sockets do have the knurled band. anybody know when that stoped?

The bands went away in about 48, so yours is 44. The E in 44 is usually off set on the top bars, and in 63 they are usually even. do you have the tool box, if so post a pic, always nice to see them.

Re: 1944 LDH
thanks for info on band. i don't have a camera but will try to find one to use. i also like the pictures i have seen here.
the set is some what of a barn find. the box is ok (still has some of the leather wrap on handle) some sockets missing but not to bad of shape for age and being neglected for so long.
thanks

thanks,
now for the $20 question. restore or leave as is?
i know it is a personal choice and i'm thinking restore.
what do others think?
any body got a couple of loose 44 sockets?

cool news on the 1 1/4 i am most interested. funny you ask about the 6 point, it is a williams (6-640 newer ? impac) the 1 1/4 will replace it. some one put it in the set before me. the ratchet is a L-72R.
