1/2 drive 12 point deep sockets- S series vs. SH series

Post by alfajuj »

I just bought a set of 1/2 drive 12 point deep sockets and some of them have part numbers starting with SH while others start with S. For example the 9/16" socket is SH-181, but the 3/4" is S-241.
What is the difference between the S and SH series? They seem to be the same length.
I looked at the catalogs and all the ones I found always have the "S" part numbers.
The date codes show them to be from 1966 and 1967.
